Syrian authorities have accused the educator Sheikh Hassan Sari of attacking a member of the security forces. Sheikh Hassan is one of the most prolific religious scholars of Latakia and the founder of the Institute of Quran Teaching and the imam and preacher of Safwan Mosque. He is 81 years of age. A military judge in Latakia accused him of assaulting a member of the security forces that attacked Hussein Mosque last Wednesday, in which the Sheikh was present.
The allegations were made to him on Saturday in front of the military judge, well knowing that he has passed 80 years of age. The purpose of those allegations is weakening the uprising on the streets in Latakia and especially in Ramadan with the absence of the most prominent truthful scholars of the city, and the defenders of the rights of its people.
The trial has been postponed to Sunday, 12:00pm on 2011-08-07 at the military court.
