Today a huge protest took off from Al-Hassan Mosque in Al-Midan. The protesters chanted in support of Jissr Al-Shoghour and the martyrs and for the toppling of the regime. They were met by more than 10 buses of security forces that were centered under Al-Mohallaq Bridge, together with numerous members of the Riot Police. As a part of the demonstraters was exiting from the gate, they were attacked by security forces immediately and many were arrested. They were brutally beaten, bleeding from their heads. So many of the people remaining in the mosque decided to stay inside, fearing the violence. The security forces locked the back doors of the mosque and surrounded it from all sides. Every person that exited was pulled towards a bus for detainees, while being continuously beaten. More than 250 people remained trapped in the mosque, many of which were injured as they were freed from the hands of the security forces by other men in the mosque and received first aid treatment inside the mosque.
And after all gates had been locked, there appeared several thugs and secret security agents (not wearing any particular uniform), equipped with sharp blades and chains. They stood by the gates of the mosque and started throwing blocks and glass bottles at protestors in the external yard of the mosque — damaging windows and some of the gates. Prayers who remained inside the mosque along with Sheikh Kareem Rajeh shut down all the gates on the inside and locked themselves in the mosque until 4pm, in an attempt to protect themselves during these moments of petrification and horror
By that time, the back door had no security close to it, so people were asked to leave slowly and quietly to the outside while security maintained their dense presence on the main road next to the main entrance. Some people went into nearby buildings to avoid ambushes in the alleys, fearing a repeat for what happened in the Alrifai mosque incident when the events started : people were given immunity then and were told to leave, and then they were arrested once outside.
