The majority of Al Zabadany inhabitants went out in protests condemning the systematic killing perpetrated by the criminal regime of Al-Assad against peaceful protesters. They insisted on the peacefulness of their protest since their very first day, noting that although this city has witnessed daily protests not even a tree branch was damaged.
In the Friday of the Protectors of the Land (Humat Al Dyar), almost 300 demonstrators went out starting at the Aljisr Alkabeer mosque, chanting loudly for freedom despite heavy security presence. When the demonstrators said “The people want to topple the regime” the commanding officer of the anti-riot police which was surrounding the mosque, gave orders to attack the demonstrators and fire tear gas at them. When the demonstration was not broken, the officer shot from his gun directly at the demonstrators hitting an anti-riot policeman and wounding a demonstrator. Security forces located behind the troops of antiriot used machine guns to fire at the demonstrators killing Hussain Abduaziz Zulekhah and wounding four others.
As for the claims that Hussain Abdulaziz Zulekhah has died due to a heart attack, we state here that the demonstrators carried the martyr to his house immediately after he was shot, but they have arrived after his death. Once there, his family paid him tribute and his funeral started half an hour later. Security forces were prevented from stealing or inspecting his body prior to his burial. We would like to ask the security forces: When did you perform an autopsy on his dead body? Did you dig his dead body out of the grave?
The official Syrian media has been broadcasting confessions by alleged armed groups. These confessions are part of a policy of misinformation that aims to mislead public opinion. Al-Dakak mosque in Zabadani was surrounded by security forces on May 25. Arms were brought into the mosque, which state media later claimed belonged to armed groups. Similar actions were undertaken in other Syrian cities where protests took place.
The people of Zabadani state:
– we refuse the presence of the army in our town;
– we make the current regime responsible for the killing taking place;
– we will continue our peaceful revolution, even if the whole town is eradicated
Accompanying this statement is a video clip that shows the funeral of the martyr Hussein Zalikhe. More then 10,000 people took part in the funeral. In light of this clip and the number of people who took part in the funeral, we would like to ask the current regime: Who is the criminal? Who is raising their voice for justice and freedom?
Freedom is what we demand, peaceful revolution is the path we have chosen until this regime is toppled.

In contrast, this is what the deceitful Syrian media had to say. Please note the contradiction between the statement of Abd Elmajid Kanaan (who was coerced), and the statement made by security forces.

The people of Zabadani had issued their third communique on Friday to preempt these dirty tricks by the regime. We want to prove that the the regime’s lies and claims regarding the presence of armed militants or terrorists are but a pretext in order to enter our town and crush the peaceful demonstrations. These demonstrations, which demand freedom and the fall of the regime, will not stop in Zabadani and its surroundings.
