The residents of Al Midan, since the beginning of the protests in Syria, have fulfilled their obligations in adjusting matters, gathering the youth, and a commitment to expression of opinions and protesting in a civilized and peaceful manner. Each time, they were attacked by armed civilians with clubs and knives and a vocabulary of profanity, vulgar cursing, and blasphemous statements. Even the people on the balconies were not spared from their aggression and all of this was done under the watch and protection of security officers and police.
The frequency of this issue over several weeks clearly indicates that the entity responsible for these (Shabiha – Regime thugs) is the real enemy of our nation, and it’s the one seeking to create discord, especially after the attack on Mosque Al Hassan after the last Friday prayers on 06/17/2011, breaking its windows and trapping worshipers inside the mosque (including the mosque preacher Sheikh Muhammad Karim Rajeh) and hitting people with stones, firecrackers, and this, if anything it shows a dangerous escalation that could leads to dire consequences.
Residents of Al Midan district condemn this action and assert that the repetition of this will push our youth to defend themselves, their money and their honor, which will further complicate matters and intensify dissension.
We hope that no one takes this statement as a threat but as exhorting one another to the right path in order to get rid of the sedition.
